It was an early start Friday morning but we were lucky enough to have Mark keeping us entertained with stories all the way to Shannon. It was 6am and the Cahir boys were tucking into a hearty breakfast of large bottles of cider. We arrived at Jurys Inn at 10.15am with everyone present. After a day of shopping (not!), we made our way to the ground. We had our usual seats in the lower tier of the North Bank (great view). What a game it was, with a brilliant atmosphere. When the 5th goal went in, the place irrupted and nearly woke up Kieran. It was probably the best game of the season and a pleasure to watch Henry at his best. Our only junior member on the trip, David O’Dea, was lucky enough to meet some of his heroes after the game (Bergkamp, Viera, Wiltord, Gilberto etc.) After the game it was off to the 12 Pins where the singing continued (apologies to the band who tried their best!).
The Saturday was a day off to enjoy more shopping. Well done to Peter who kept our seats for us at the Hotel bar all
day. The bar at the hotel mustn’t have been stocked very well, as rumour has it, individuals had to move onto bottles of
wine at 4am, which is strange as we were leaving at 6.30am! We did manage to get everyone onto the bus. The flight home
was delayed a little, however, as somebody was having difficulty getting on to the plane. Glad it wasn’t any of our group
(Hmmm!)
The weekend was finished off nicely with a small pit stop in Oola (although for some the weekend was to continue further!)
Overall a brilliant weekend – great match, result, atmosphere and craic!
